“Located within the Hakka community in Nanping, Jiadong Agricultural School has a long history of nurturing skilled agricultural professionals, contributing significantly to Taiwan’s outstanding industrial achievements. This public artwork takes the ‘book’ as its central motif, symbolizing the school as a sacred ground for imparting knowledge and dispelling ignorance, embodying the metaphor of ‘boundless learning.’ The fusion of books and rice seedlings also represents the Hakka community’s spirit of valuing both culture and hard work, encapsulated in the phrase ‘to toil in fair weather and study during rainy days,’ while the rippling effect signifies the school’s abundant talent, making a profound impact on society. The colorful waves under the clear sky extend blessings to the students, wishing them boundless success and a brilliant future.
To harmonize with the architectural environment’s defined lines, the wave-like design integrates with the imagery of the entrance gate. Departing from the traditional rigidity of sculptural public art, this installation incorporates wind-powered elements, emphasizing a lively and interactive visual effect as its primary creative concept.”
“I use the rhythmic floral patterns by hollow-carved way, in order to decorate the space of architectural environment. The color system with green has its own visual influence about ecology. And it also symbolized the multiple of agricultural technology and industry. Butterfly is used to represent the idea of the sustainable management of ecology.”
